Coast Guard P100 Pump Hard Starting In Colder Weather?
Oil in the engine pan thickens considerably as the ambient temperature drops below 40 deg F. Rope Pull to start engines become nearly impossible for one man to spin the Yanmar diesel engine fast enough to achieve the compression necessary to start. Even electric start engines are affected by the colder weather as the temperature drops. HOT OIL in the pan makes a big difference to start easier.
Solution: Preheat the engine oil using the Universal Preheater #UN-42.5SLWD
The Universal Preheater #UN-42.5SLWD designed for the P100 Pump in service with the U.S. Coast Guard and the U.S. U.S. Navy. Hot lube oil in the pan makes starting a lot easier. Four oil pan bolts hold the Preheater plate on the bottom of the oil pan.

It is a 120v, 200w, 1.67 amp, Low Watt Density flexible, fiberglass silicone pad equipped with a 7 ft. three conductor HPN cord with plug and ground lead. The Preheater is permanently mounted to an aluminum plate drilled to fit the four oil pan corner mounting bolts at the bottom of the engine.
