Bauer High Pressure Breathing Air Compressor with Yanmar Diesel Engine Hard Starting In Colder Weather?
Oil in the engine and compressor pans (or sumps) thickens considerably as the ambient temperature drops below 40 deg F. Rope-pull-to-start engines become nearly impossible for one man to spin the Yanmar diesel engine fast enough to achieve the compression necessary to start. Even electric start engines are affected by the colder weather as the temperature drops. HOT OIL in the pan makes a big difference to start easier.
Solution: Preheat the engine oil using the Universal Preheater #UN-5X6 B/Y SLWD Preheater (2 required: 1 on the engine and 1 on the compressor)

This Universal Preheater is designed for the U.S. Coast Guard Bauer High Pressure Breathing Air Compressor and the Yanmar Diesel Engine. The individual Preheater is interchangeable for either component.
The Preheater is mounted to the Main Frame with the aluminum plate side toward the oil pan. It can be insulated to
drive more heat through the aluminum plate and into the housing. If additional insulation is needed we recommend
our flexible ceramic insulation. The Universal Preheater can be plugged in continuously and will not overheat or damage the lubricating oil in the pan.
