Diesel Engine Winter Woes

Engine Warm Up?

Generally speaking, diesel engines in very cold temperatures are most responsive after a warm up period before beginning work operations. This warm up period insures that hot lubricating oil reaches the furthest bearings in the engine. That warm up period is expensive as work is not being accomplished.

The Universal Oil Pan Preheater shortens that warm up period and the engine is ready to work sooner because of the hot oil in the oil pan.

No Power?

That is frustrating to the driver or the operator, when engines do not respond immediately to the throttle as expected, the load may even stall the engine. The RPM drops and the engine cannot recover. Universal Preheaters keep the engine oil hot so that the engine is ready to work almost as soon as it is started.

Hard Starting?

We have all heard the sound of an engine being repeatedly cranked to start but without success. With hot oil supplied by the Universal Oil Pan Preheater the starter spins the engine easily for faster starting.

Slow Warmup?

Sitting and waiting after starting the engine waiting for the warm up period to complete, the driver is not working. Is this a cost of doing business? Can that wait time be shortened or eliminated? Keeping the Universal Preheater energized since the last engine shut down means the oil will be kept hot and the engine ready to work almost as soon as it starts up again, reducing or eliminating that wait time.

Water in the Oil?

Milky looking oil is a sure sign of water in the oil. This condition is a sure engine killer if not corrected. Not widely known, but a constant cause of this condition occurs at shut down of a hot engine at the end of the work day. Cold weather causes the formation of condensation on internal engine parts (the result of the drastic temperature difference between the oil inside and the ambient temperature outside). Unseen internal condensation will drip water vapor into the oil. Universal Preheaters on the oil pan and other housing drives that moisture out keeping the oil in top condition.
